Mining Engineer

It is important, whatever the size of your building project, that the ground on which it is built is fully understood, even more so when this is in an area which has been heavily mined, as large parts of Cornwall have been.

A mining engineer has specialist expertise to interpret geological maps, historical and other mining records and can provide a report detailing the possible risks a site may have, and advise on a strategy for ensuring that any problems in the future are limited. The recommendations can range from a simple site inspection when the foundations are excavated, through to detailed site investigations to locate known mining or geological features.

In Cornwall, a desktop study is required to be submitted with Building Regulations Applications and will cost between £200 and £300. It may also be required to be submitted with Planning Applications if the project is a new build or a replacement dwelling.
