The Cornish Arms is Rick Stein’s gastro pub, located just outside of Padstow in St Merryn. At the time of appointment, the client had obtained planning permission to more than double the size of the existing restaurant.

Built using traditional materials, the Rick Stein Group commissioned 3HW with producing- in conjunction with Carpenter Oak- detailed design drawings for the construction of the new extension, as well as obtaining Building Regulations Approval.

3HW worked collaboratively with Edward Stein, focusing on his desire to use traditional materials for the external walls. This created a unique set of criteria, and through innovative use of construction materials, we were able to design a solid external wall which is breathable, yet still maintains the level of insulation required by the Building Regulations. This was complemented with the modern materials used in the construction of the roof structure and the natural oak frame.
